The best word to describe Thailand is:
EXOTIC.
It has the feel of an ancient third-world country with many modern conveniences. The best part about it is the people. The smile is like their hand-shake, so most everybody smiles at you. I found it very comforting. I wish more people in America would smile. ;>)
